BLATT CHAYA
Blatt Chaya was originally founded in 1881 by Edgard’s great-grandfather and operated through three generations, producing cement tiles that, at the time, coloured the floors of several houses and apartments along the Mediterranean coast especially Italy, Portugal, Morocco and Lebanon. Unfortunately, it closed down in the 1940’s possibly due to the upheaval of WW2.In 1996, after stumbling across his great-grandfather’s old tile moulds, finance retiree Edgar Chaya decided to restart the business. He painstakingly taught himself the craft, becoming obsessed with doing things the traditional way. It took him six years of trial and error, to successfully produce tiles exactly as his grandfather used to. Using the same traditional ingredients, natural colours and hand motions.
Blatt Chaya‘s homeware collection invites this long-forgotten art form onto the table featuring countless designs and vibrant colours.
